Three English stars, Lauren James, Lucy Bronze, and Lauren Hemp, have been shortlisted for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, recognizing the world’s best female footballer of 2024.
All three players were instrumental in England’s run to the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, where they narrowly fell to Spain.
Spain’s Aitana Bonmati, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner and Barcelona midfielder, is also among the 30 nominees.
Chelsea boasts four nominees, including German midfielder Sjoeke Nusken, Colombian striker Mayra Ramirez, and former Barcelona defender Lucy Bronze.
Other notable nominees include Manchester City’s Yui Hasegawa, Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey, and Chelsea, who are vying for the Club of the Year award alongside Barcelona, NJ/NY Gotham FC, Lyon, and Paris Saint-Germain.
England manager Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor are competing for the Women’s Coach of the Year award.
The winners of these prestigious awards will be announced at a ceremony in Paris on October 28.
