Sudan’s national men’s football team head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance following their recent victory over Niger.

Despite the win, Appiah remains cautious about the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Falcons of Jediane secured a 1-0 win against Niger in South Sudan, taking an early lead in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the match was held at a neutral venue.

Bakr Issa’s goal in the 51st minute proved to be the decisive factor in the match.

Appiah praised his players for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing the importance of this win as they embark on their qualification journey.

“I thank the players for working hard to get the three points as we started the qualifiers,” Appiah said. “There is still a lot of work to be done because we have many more matches to be played in the group.”

Sudan and Niger are joined in Group F by Ghana and Angola.

The latter two teams will face off on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Under Appiah’s guidance, Sudan is also leading Group B in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
