A final-year student from the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) was tragically stabbed to death in Bantama, a suburb in the Ashanti Region, amid claims of theft.
The victim, known as ‘Gye Nyame’ and believed to be in his late twenties, was accused by an elderly woman of stealing her bag.
She reported the incident to her 30-year-old boyfriend, leading to a confrontation. Despite the student’s denial and threats, the argument escalated over several days.
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the altercation culminated in the student being fatally stabbed in the head. Although he was rushed to Suntreso Government Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Efforts by local leaders to mediate the conflict before it resulted in death were unsuccessful. The alleged attacker is now in police custody, awaiting legal proceedings.
