NDC Promises Aggressive Action Against Galamsey in 2024 Election
- The NDC promises a robust approach to combat galamsey
- The Ghana Water Company Limited has reported severe water pollution
- Okudzeto Ablakwa criticized the current government's failure to address the crisis effectively
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to aggressively tackle illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, if they win the 2024 election.
The party criticized the current administration for its ineffective handling of the issue, which has led to severe pollution of water resources across Ghana.
The Ghana Water Company Limited has raised alarms about the deteriorating water quality, particularly in the Central Region, where illegal mining activities have severely impacted water supply.
During the NDC’s second press briefing on their 2024 manifesto, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that the NDC plans to take a tough stance against galamsey.
He highlighted the urgent need for action, citing reports from Ghana Water Limited about the dire state of water bodies like the Pra River, which have become nearly unusable due to pollution.
Ablakwa criticized the current government’s inability to address the crisis effectively, stating that only the NDC’s proposed measures will confront this pressing issue.
