England international Millie Bright has made a powerful commitment to children’s mental health by becoming an ambassador for the charity YoungMinds.
The 31-year-old Chelsea captain has openly discussed her own experiences with mental health struggles and sees this new role as one of the most meaningful in her career.
Having supported her mother through depression and anxiety, Bright hopes to use her personal journey to inspire and support young people.
“It’s scary how many people come forward and say they are struggling,” she told BBC Sport. “I don’t feel like you should ever feel alone in a world with billions of people.”
Bright emphasizes the importance of creating safe spaces for young people who are struggling. “Mental health can really affect someone and change who they are,” she says. “It’s a horrible journey to go through – not only for themselves but the people surrounding them.”
As an ambassador, Bright will visit schools and events to promote positivity and provide support to young people.
She also shares her own coping strategies, such as the importance of finding personal sanctuaries. “For me and my mum, it’s the farm,” she says. “Being up there is where nothing else matters.”
Bright’s commitment to YoungMinds underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and support for children’s mental health.
By sharing her personal story and offering practical advice, she hopes to make a positive impact on the lives of young people struggling with mental health challenges.
