Keta Protests: Residents Demand Justice for Landlord Killed by Police

The Ghana Police Service has deployed heavy security forces to Keta in the Volta Region as residents stage a massive demonstration demanding justice for Jerry Kpesenu Maya, a landlord who allegedly died due to police brutality.

Kpesenu, who was reportedly beaten to death while in police custody in June 2024, was initially arrested following a dispute with an electrician working at his property.

The incident, which involved a violent altercation with officers from the Keta Municipal Police Command, has ignited widespread anger and calls for accountability.

Witnesses claim that the police used excessive force, including electric cables, against Kpesenu.

The local community is now rallying for a comprehensive investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable, despite assurances from the Volta Regional Crime Officer that the command is aware of the situation.
