Otumfuo Resolves KNUST Vice-Chancellor Reappointment Dispute
- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II mediated the dispute over the Vice-Chancellor’s reappointment
- Plaintiffs Isaac Mensah and Clement Ohene Asare agreed to withdraw their legal challenges
- Otumfuo’s intervention aims to avoid disruptions
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has intervened to resolve the conflict surrounding the reappointment of the university’s Vice-Chancellor.
Recent reports confirm that the involved parties have agreed to withdraw their legal actions.
In a meeting called at Otumfuo’s request, Isaac Mensah, a staff member from KNUST’s Stores Department, and Clement Ohene Asare, a KNUST alumnus, both of whom had filed separate lawsuits against the university’s Governing Council and Vice-Chancellor, consented to drop their cases.
These lawsuits challenged the legitimacy of the extension granted to Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor, for an additional two-year term following the end of her initial term on August 1.
The plaintiffs argued that the Governing Council had mishandled the process, failing to adhere to KNUST’s governing regulations.
After listening to their concerns, Otumfuo encouraged the plaintiffs to withdraw their lawsuits to prevent disruptions to the university’s academic operations and to allow him to address any remaining issues.
