- Nana Opia Mensah II was destooled for misusing the Asante Sacred Oath
- The traditional council's decision was based on a report
- The 90-year-old chief has reigned for 54 years
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has removed the Wirempehene, Nana Opia Mensah II, from his position for desecrating the Asante Sacred Oath.
The decision was made after a thorough investigation revealed that the former MP had invoked the oath to claim a stool that did not rightfully belong to him.
In a council meeting at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene expressed his disappointment in Nana Opia Mensah II’s actions, stating that his misuse of the sacred oath had violated both traditional and statutory laws.
The 90-year-old chief, who had reigned for 54 years, was stripped of his title and forced to relinquish the throne.
The Aduana Clan, to which Nana Opia Mensah II belongs, was found to be illegitimate, and the Oyoko Clan was recognized as the rightful royal house.
The Asantehene emphasized that the misuse of the sacred oath was a serious offense that could not be tolerated.
