New Zealand legend Brendon McCullum has been appointed as England’s new men’s white-ball coach, adding to his current role as Test coach.
This dual role will see him replace Matthew Mott, who stepped down following the T20 World Cup.
McCullum, known for his aggressive batting style, has been instrumental in England’s Test resurgence alongside captain Ben Stokes.
He expressed enthusiasm for this new challenge and the opportunity to work closely with Jos Buttler, the white-ball captain.
The decision aligns with the vision of Rob Key, the men’s director of cricket, who advocates for a unified coaching structure.
With a less hectic schedule next year, McCullum believes it is feasible to effectively lead both teams.
Marcus Trescothick will serve as interim head coach for the white-ball team during their upcoming series against Australia and the Caribbean.
McCullum’s first official assignment as white-ball coach will be a tour of India, followed by the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
