Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims by some NDC Members of Parliament that they contributed to the purchase of equipment for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).

The government has delivered excavators and other earthmoving machines to improve roads in Ghana under the DRIP initiative.

Some NDC MPs have sought to take credit for the project, claiming it was implemented with their portion of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

However, Dr. Bawumia clarified that Parliament had no role in the implementation of the program. Addressing a durbar at the Awubia Festival in Awutu Bereku, Dr. Bawumia revealed that he proposed the idea of DRIP on a committee he chaired.

He explained that the committee, which he chaired, came up with the idea to buy equipment to help every district construct roads in Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the idea was solely from his committee and had nothing to do with Parliament. He stated that the project was funded and implemented without any approval from Parliament.

Dr. Bawumia asserted that he ensured the purchase of the equipment and its distribution to every district in Ghana. He warned that nobody should claim responsibility for the initiative, as it was his brainchild.
