Chinese National Killed in Amansie South District

A 52-year-old Chinese national, identified as Yao Xian, was shot dead in Manso Watereso, located in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, on August 30, 2024.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. as Xian was riding his motorbike. He was reportedly shot in the chest by unidentified assailants.

Authorities have apprehended three individuals believed to be connected to the crime. The suspects, who are thought to be employees of Xian’s mining operation, are Kwadwo Mensah (32), Robert Agyei (29), and Abdullah Mohammed (45).

According to a police report, the assailants did not steal any valuables from the victim.

The police arrived at the crime scene and found Xian’s body in a bush along the Watreso motor road, with a gunshot wound in his chest. His colleagues confirmed his identity.

During the investigation, police conducted searches at the suspects’ residences and discovered a pump-action shotgun, identified as No. ASAR 2883 2014, along with seven live rounds of ammunition, at Robert Agyei’s home.

Despite Agyei’s claim that the gun had not been fired, examination revealed it had indeed been used.
