A harrowing week of road incidents in South Africa has led to the deaths of at least 32 individuals.
The latest tragedy unfolded on Sunday evening in northeastern Limpopo province, where a bus en route from Zimbabwe overturned, resulting in the deaths of five passengers—a man and four women.
Authorities suspect driver fatigue may have been a contributing factor. Numerous others were injured and have been hospitalized.
This incident is the second fatal bus accident in Limpopo in just one week, following an earlier crash involving another Zimbabwean bus that resulted in 10 deaths and 35 injuries.
Additionally, South Africa witnessed a devastating head-on collision in KwaZulu-Natal province on Saturday, which claimed 11 lives.
Another tragic event in the same province involved a minibus transporting supporters of the opposition uMkhonto weSizwe party, leading to six fatalities.
South Africa’s road safety issues persist, with concerns over reckless driving and inadequate vehicle maintenance. Local officials have called for improved training and preparedness for cross-border bus operators to mitigate such catastrophic accidents.
