Methodist Church Ghana Elects New Presiding Bishop
- Very Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu is new Presiding Bishop
- Professor Asamoah-Gyadu secured the position with 226 votes
- He defeated Right Reverend Michael Agyarkwa Bossman who received 99 votes
The Methodist Church Ghana has elected Very Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu as its new Presiding Bishop.
The election took place on Saturday at the church’s biennial conference at the Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi.
Professor Asamoah-Gyadu, currently the President of the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra, will succeed Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, whose term ends in September 2024.
At the conference, Professor Asamoah-Gyadu secured the position with 226 votes, representing 53.33% of the total votes cast.
He defeated Right Reverend Michael Agyarkwa Bossman, the current Administrative Bishop, who received 99 votes (23.8%).
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Presiding Bishop expressed gratitude to God and the delegates for the opportunity to serve the church.
