Dr. Charles Nyaaba, a former Director of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, has accused the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of exaggerating the impact of the dry spell in the northern part of the country.
Speaking on a local TV show, Nyaaba alleged that the ministry is using the dry spell as a pretext to misuse funds allocated to farmers under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) 2.0 program.
He dismissed the ministry’s claims of a dire situation, stating that he is currently in a farming community and can demonstrate the healthy state of the crops.
Nyaaba expressed skepticism about the ministry’s plan to spend GH₵8 billion to avert a potential food crisis, citing past instances of alleged misappropriation of funds.
He criticized the way the funds are being distributed, claiming that they are being diverted to MPs and District Chief Executives (DCEs) instead of reaching the intended beneficiaries.
The former director warned that farmers will resist any attempts to misuse the funds and called for transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
