The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not sign an election peace pact unless six key conditions are met, according to Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
He emphasized this stance while speaking to residents in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern region.
Asiedu Nketia referenced the party’s previous experience with a peace pact, which he believes exposed NDC members to extrajudicial killings after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government failed to uphold its commitments.
He stated, “We will not allow that to happen again… We need peace in the country, but there cannot be peace without justice.”
The National Peace Council has expressed hope that the NDC will eventually sign the peace accord, acknowledging that the party has raised valid concerns that will be addressed.
However, Asiedu Nketia remains resolute, citing the French phrase “Premier gaou n’est pas gaou” (“first fool is not a fool”), indicating that the party will not be deceived again.
