Gov’t Injects GH¢50 Million into WAEC for Smooth BECE and WASSCE Operations

The government has allocated GH¢50 million to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to support the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a Thursday statement, the Ministry of Education (MoE) emphasized that this funding highlights the government’s dedication to meeting its financial commitments to WAEC, ensuring that the Council’s work proceeds without disruption.

The Ministry reassured students, parents, guardians, and the public of its ongoing commitment to providing a smooth and high-quality educational experience for all Ghanaian students.

Earlier this year, in June, the government had already provided GH¢47 million to WAEC for the BECE. WAEC had previously received only GH¢2.3 million of a GH¢95.83 million debt, prompting a request for at least 50% of the total amount to manage the examinations and additional funds for processing and releasing results.
