Bombing raids conducted by the junta air force resulted in the deaths of at least two civilians and injured six others on Tuesday in the Mandalay Region’s Natogyi and Ngazun townships, located less than 100 miles southwest of Mandalay, according to resistance sources.
The airstrikes targeted Ngan Myar village in Ngazun Township and Let Wea Myin Ni village in Natogyi Township shortly after 1 p.m., as reported by Wan Too, leader of the Myingyan District Battalion 1 of the resistance forces.
Myingyan District includes the townships of Myingyan, Natogyi, Ngazun, and Taungtha. The Myingyan District Battalion 1 is affiliated with the People’s Defence Forces (PDF), which serves as the military wing of the National Unity Government, an anti-junta coalition recognized by the public.
The junta’s aerial bombardment hit a school in Ngan Myar village, resulting in injuries to three individuals. Among the fatalities were a man named Aung Thein and a woman known as Daw Mya, both in their 70s, as reported by the battalion commander to Myanmar Now.
In the aftermath of the attack, local sources reported significant damage to civilian infrastructure and growing fears among residents. The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the vulnerability of communities in the affected areas.
The escalation of airstrikes underscores the intensifying conflict between the junta forces and resistance groups. These attacks have led to widespread condemnation from various human rights organizations and increased calls for international intervention.
The People’s Defence Forces, which continues to resist junta control, have urged the international community to take action to protect civilians and halt the relentless military campaigns.
The junta’s aggressive tactics have led to a humanitarian crisis, with many displaced and in need of urgent assistance. The situation remains critical as the conflict continues to evolve, impacting countless lives in the region.
