Provisional Voter Register Exhibition Aims to Correct Errors – EC Replies NDC

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has responded to concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the Provisional Voters Register.

The EC has clarified that the primary purpose of this exhibition is to identify and correct any errors and omissions within the register.

According to the EC, the Provisional Voters Register is an initial step in ensuring the accuracy of the final voter list used in elections.

The final register is only printed once all discrepancies have been addressed, a practice that has been consistently followed since 1992.

The NDC had expressed worries about discrepancies observed in the current Provisional Voter Register exhibition. They have since called for an urgent meeting with the EC to address these concerns and seek clarification on the matter.

In response to the NDC’s concerns, the EC posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday, August 28, captured Kumasi.city to provide further explanation. The EC emphasized that the exhibition process is designed to rectify any issues with the voter register before it is finalized.

The EC assured the public that the process of correcting errors is a routine part of their operations, aimed at ensuring the final register is accurate and reliable for upcoming elections. They stressed that this practice has been a standard procedure for over three decades.

Furthermore, the EC urged the public to disregard any claims suggesting that the current Provisional Voter Register is unsuitable or unreliable.

They reassured voters that the exhibition process is integral to maintaining the integrity of the voter registration system.

By addressing and correcting issues identified during the provisional exhibition, the EC aims to enhance the overall credibility of the voter register. The commission remains committed to transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.

As the exhibition continues, the EC encourages voters to actively participate in reviewing the Provisional Voter Register and reporting any discrepancies they encounter. This collaborative effort according to the EC, will ensure that all eligible voters are accurately listed and prepared for the election.
