Mahama Vows to Probe Krobo Protest Killings – Asiedu Nketia
- NDC promises to investigate Manya Krobo protest clashes.
- Clashes resulted in one death and multiple injuries.
- NDC vows to punish responsible parties and compensate victims.
- Protests were sparked by alleged overbilling and disconnections by PDS.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured the people of Manya Krobo that they will thoroughly investigate the 2019 deadly clashes between residents and security forces.
NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia made this promise during a five-day campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
The clashes resulted in the death of 24-year-old Thomas Partey and multiple injuries, including the amputation of an 18-year-old girl’s leg.
The incident stemmed from protests against alleged overbilling and mass disconnection by Power Distribution Services (PDS).
Asiedu Nketia expressed the party’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
He promised that the NDC government would investigate and punish those who committed crimes during the clashes.
The party would also compensate the victims and families who lost relatives.
The clashes occurred after residents protested against PDS’s alleged overbilling, leading to the deployment of security forces.
Despite promises to investigate, no action was taken by the then-Energy Minister Peter Amewu.
Asiedu Nketia criticized the government’s handling of the situation, vowing that under an NDC administration, those responsible would face justice.
