The Board and Management of Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School have introduced Mrs Adellaide Biyaa Powers as their new headmistress to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The former head teacher for the Prince of Peace Girls’ Senior High School takes over the reins from Mrs Selina Anane Afoakwa who was suspended among numerous head teachers for charging unapproved fees last year.
Mrs Biyaa Powers was introduced to the Monarch at the Manhyia Palace during the Awukudae Festival on August 28, 2024, by a delegation led by the Board Chairman, Nana Fobi Kopa III.
“We have a new headmistress, and we are here to introduce her to His Majesty and seek blessings for her,” Nana Kopa said.
He also used the occasion to express the institution’s gratitude to the King for designating a representative to attend their 60th anniversary celebration last year.
Among the delegation were Gloria Ohene Owusu, the Accountant, Rebecca Tetteh, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Administration, Mabel Oppong, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Academics, Gifty Mensah Bonsu, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic, some teachers and students.
Assistance
Mrs Biyaa Powers in her submission updated Otumfuo about the affairs of the school and sought assistance to have CCTV cameras installed on their campus.
“We have our sizable plot of land which is fenced however some portions of it are short and enable thieves to come in to steal our belongings. Currently, we have only two security personnel on-site, and we’re awaiting additional support from the government. In the interim, installing CCTV cameras would greatly enhance our security and provide valuable surveillance.”
His Majesty extended a warm welcome to the head teacher as he sought an update on the issue of encroachment that bedevilled the schools some time ago. He was duly informed it is now a thing of the past thanks to his intervention which led to the construction of a fence wall around the school.
“I welcome her. I urge you and all the staff to continue the good work. Kumasi Girls has produced a lot of female elites. The school started at Tafo and moved to its present location. We all know how critical women’s education is to the development of any country. Take good care of the students for me and take a keen interest in STEM.
His Majesty also served notice about his intention to pay the school a visit one of these days.
