Franco Colapinto, the first Argentinian driver to compete in Formula One in over two decades, has dismissed comparisons to football icon Lionel Messi.
The 21-year-old is set to make his debut at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend, replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams.
Despite the excitement surrounding his appointment, Colapinto has remained grounded and realistic about his expectations. “It’s crazy to compare me to Messi,” he said, emphasizing the immense talent and achievements of the football superstar.
Colapinto’s focus is on performing well for Williams, who have struggled this season.
He aims to contribute to the team’s efforts and learn from the experience. “I just want to go step by step and do my job,” he added.
The Italian Grand Prix will mark the beginning of Colapinto’s Formula One journey.
With his debut set for Friday, the young driver is eager to make a positive impression and showcase his skills on the track.
