Asante Kotoko have added Nigerian forward Wisdom Fernando to their roster ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old has joined the Porcupine Warriors as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Akwa United. Last season, Fernando was on loan at Sporting Lagos.
Fernando fills the spot left by Bernard Somuah Sarpong, who has been loaned to Spanish club Celta Vigo.
His transfer was finalized on the transfer deadline day in Ghana, August 25, 2024, and he will be joining the team in Cape Coast as they gear up for the new campaign.
Throughout his career in the Nigerian Professional Football League, Fernando has netted seven goals and provided eight assists in 76 appearances over seven seasons with Akwa United and Sporting Lagos. He played a key role in Akwa United’s Nigeria Premier Football League title victory during the 2020-21 season.
Fernando is the fifth international player to join Asante Kotoko this transfer window, joining Sudanese players Esmat Abdulhamid and AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub, Congolese defender Samba O’Neil, and Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.
Asante Kotoko will begin their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Karela United.
