The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a stern warning to WASSCE candidates to arrive at their exam centres at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Failure to do so could result in being barred from taking the exams.

This warning follows a recent inspection by WAEC Head Dr. Rosemond Wilson, who visited two schools in the Greater Accra region.

At Osu Presec and Labone Senior High School, students who arrived more than 30 minutes late were denied entry to the Social Studies paper.

At Osu Presec, out of 649 students from Osu Presec and 299 from Osu Salem Senior High School, about 17 students were late and thus prohibited from sitting the exam. The school’s Headmaster, Vincent Esoah, emphasized that latecomers, who were known for habitual tardiness, would not be allowed entry.

Similarly, at Labone Senior High School, where 1,444 students were registered, ten students who arrived late were also not permitted to take the exam. Headmistress Rejoice Ahua Akonor affirmed that she adhered strictly to WAEC’s regulations despite the students’ explanations.

Dr. Rosemond Wilson affirmed the enforcement of WAEC’s rules, noting that students who arrive late often do so intentionally, anticipating unfair advantages. The council insists on strict compliance to ensure fairness in the examination process.

Afterward, some students from Osu Presec who were initially turned away were later permitted to take the exam, contingent upon a report from the headmaster justifying their late entry.
