A 45-year-old security guard has been sentenced to four years in prison for his involvement in a theft from his employer’s warehouse in Accra.
Paul Nelson, who had conspired with two other individuals to steal goods from the facility on Graphic Road, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and theft.
Nelson, who worked as a night security guard for Holy Believe Company, which sells Bel Aqua water and other beverages, admitted to the crime. The warehouse, owned by businesswoman Mercy Tuffour, was located above the company’s premises.
The court heard that Nelson, who lives in Mallam Gbawe, was hired to secure Tuffour’s warehouse, which stores bulk bathroom sandals. On August 9, 2024, Ali and Ibrahim, who were also implicated in the crime, accessed the warehouse with Nelson’s assistance.
They damaged a door, stole an unspecified number of sacks of sandals, and loaded them onto a mini Kia truck.
During the incident, Nelson took possession of some of the stolen goods. However, Ali and Ibrahim left behind 53 sacks of sandals. Tuffour’s younger brother, Nana Opoku, discovered Nelson in possession of 54 sacks of sandals and reported the theft.
Nelson was arrested with the stolen goods, and although he identified Ali and Ibrahim as his accomplices, he could not lead authorities to them or disclose the whereabouts of the remaining stolen items.
Efforts are ongoing to locate Ali and Ibrahim and recover the stolen goods.
