- Accountability a must for NDC to sign peace pact.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its unwavering stance on not signing any peace pact ahead of the December elections, citing the need for accountability for past electoral violence. This decision comes after the party rejected appeals by the Peace Council to sign a Peace Pact, which the NDC views as a mere gesture without substance.
According to the NDC, the party will not commit to peace until those responsible for the violence and bloodshed that marred the 2020 elections are held accountable for their actions. National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emphasized this stance during a campaign rally in Agormanya, Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, where he addressed a large gathering of party supporters.
Asiedu Nketiah stressed that every life matters and that the party cannot allow people to die in pursuit of power, highlighting the need for justice and accountability. He noted that the lives lost during the election must not be in vain and that those responsible must be held accountable to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
The NDC Chairman emphasized that the party will not let wrongdoers walk free, using the peace pact as a scapegoat to escape punishment for their crimes. He added that the party needs to set an example to deter others from engaging in similar acts of violence and will never sign a pact that allows impunity to reign.
Asiedu Nketiah concluded that the party owes it to the victims and their families to seek justice and ensure that those responsible are brought to book. The NDC’s stance on accountability for electoral violence is a key condition for signing any peace pact ahead of the December elections, and the party remains resolute in its demand for justice.
