Harris and Walz to Make Joint Debut in CNN Interview

Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for President, and her running mate Tim Walz, will participate in their first formal interview of the 2024 US election campaign with CNN on Thursday.

This comes after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July, paving the way for Harris to take his place as the Democratic candidate.

The interview, conducted by CNN’s Dana Bash, will take place in Georgia, a crucial battleground state, and will air on Friday at 1:00 GMT.

According to CNN Political Director David Chalian, this marks the first time Harris will face concerted questioning in an interview format since Biden’s departure from the race six weeks ago.

Although Harris has fielded questions from journalists on the campaign trail regarding foreign and economic policies, she has yet to engage in a one-on-one media interview or hold a formal news conference.

This has drawn criticism from her opponent, Donald Trump, and the Republican Party.

In response to the interview announcement, Trump’s campaign claimed that Harris requires Walz’s presence, implying she’s “not competent enough to do it on her own.” Meanwhile, Trump has held news conferences and media interviews recently, primarily focusing on criticizing the Biden administration rather than outlining his own policy proposals.
