Ghana Strengthens Ties with Pacific Islands on Minister’s Visit

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, is currently on an official visit to the Pacific Islands.
She is attending the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (53PIFLM) in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, from August 26th to 30th, 2024.
The theme of the conference is “Transformative Resilient Pasifiki, build better now”, focusing on building a resilient Pacific.
The meeting aims to create a roadmap for achieving tangible results from the discussions among leaders.
During her visit, Minister Ayorkor Botchwey is also seeking support for her campaign to become the next Commonwealth Secretary-General.
She has met with leaders and representatives from Pacific Commonwealth Member Countries to garner support.
Minister Ayorkor Botchwey held bilateral meetings with Prime Ministers from Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea.
She also met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Nauru.
The Minister discussed issues of interest to the Commonwealth and shared her vision, which prioritizes democracy, climate change, trade, and youth empowerment.
Her vision aligns with the ideals of the Pacific, emphasizing unity, inclusivity, and resilience building.
