  • Release set for August 30, coinciding with Grammy entry deadline
  • Collaboration sparks hopes for Davido's second Grammy nomination

Nigerian music sensation Davido has revealed his upcoming single titled “Joy,” featuring 5X Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo. The announcement, made via Davido’s X (formerly Twitter) page on August 26, 2024, has generated significant buzz in the music industry.

The new track is scheduled for release on Friday, August 30, 2024, coinciding with the deadline for Grammy entries for 2024. This timing has fueled speculation about Davido’s intentions to strengthen his Grammy prospects through this collaboration with the renowned Beninese artist.

Davido’s strategic move comes in the wake of his notable achievements at the 66th Grammys in 2023. He was nominated for Best Global Album for his record-breaking fourth album Timeless, Best Global Song Performance for “Feel,” and Best African Song Performance for “Unavailable,” featuring Musa Keys. Although he did not win in these categories, his three nominations marked a significant milestone in his career.

The collaboration with Angélique Kidjo, who has won five Grammys and received 14 nominations throughout her career, is seen as a potential boost for Davido’s Grammy ambitions. Kidjo’s influence in the global music scene and her history of Grammy recognition may enhance the chances of “Joy” making an impact in the prestigious awards.

Burns Boy, another Grammy winner and a leading figure in Nigerian music, received one of his 10 nominations through his guest appearance on Kidjo’s “Do Yourself,” which earned a Global Song Performance nod at the 64th Grammys.
