Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, known widely as DKB, has shared details of a thwarted effort to meet President Nana Akufo-Addo. During an appearance on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix, DKB expressed frustration over his request to visit the President, attributing the failure to the individuals responsible for facilitating the meeting.
“I made a request to visit Nana Addo at the Flagstaff House but it didn’t seem to work out. I don’t know why, but the people involved didn’t make it materialise,” DKB remarked.
The comedian, who takes pride in being the only performer to have entertained all the Presidents of Ghana, is now focusing his efforts on supporting the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the December 7, 2024 election.
DKB, who performed at the launch of the NDC’s Youth Manifesto soiree on August 12, 2024, at the Bukom Boxing Arena, revealed his delight when Mahama repeated two of his jokes. “It was very pleasant and shocking to me when John Mahama repeated two of my jokes on stage. I couldn’t sleep till morning. He’s captured my heart and right now I’m a presidential comedian,” DKB told aKorfa.
The comedian has committed to supporting Mahama’s campaign in gratitude for the endorsement he received. “It was one huge endorsement in my whole career and I have been through a lot in this country so if a President is talking about your joke and how he loves your joke, the only thing you can also do is to help him become President and realise his dream. So right now, I am fully pushing John Mahama. It doesn’t mean I hate NPP,” he stated.
DKB is among several figures from the creative arts sector who have publicly endorsed the NDC in the lead-up to the December 7, 2024 elections. Other notable personalities in the entertainment industry supporting the NDC include Big Akwes, Christiana Awuni, Mercy Asiedu, Jack Alolome, and Kofi Okyere Darko.
