Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia lauded the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for its successful training of 10,000 Ghanaian youths, highlighting this initiative as clear evidence of the NPP Government’s dedication to providing employable skills. The first phase of the YEA’s Skills Training Programme covered a range of trades including carpentry, beauty care, hairdressing, plumbing, and auto mechanics. Participants not only received allowances during their training but were also provided with essential start-up equipment.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Techiman, Bawumia reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the youth and creating further training opportunities under the ongoing digitalization agenda. He reflected on the launch of previous initiatives such as the Artisan Directory and the Kayayei Empowerment Programme, which have also contributed to skill development and job creation.
Bawumia acknowledged the substantial socio-economic impact of the new artisans, noting that their skills would contribute to Ghana’s growth and the broader ECOWAS region. He praised the YEA for its adaptability to the evolving job market and mentioned the establishment of a Job Centre and an upcoming app designed to facilitate connections between graduates and job opportunities across the country.
Encouraging the graduates, Bawumia emphasized the importance of continued learning and skill enhancement. He urged them to build their careers on a foundation of integrity, hard work, and transparency, stressing that certification alone does not guarantee success.
YEA CEO Kofi Baah Agyapong also commended the graduates for their perseverance, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. He encouraged them to leverage their newly acquired skills to make a positive impact and to serve as role models for others.
Agyapong highlighted the importance of practicing their trades effectively to attract clients and motivate other young people to pursue skill development. He urged the graduates to seize this opportunity to excel and demonstrate the value of their training.
