Hon. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, has rejected accusations that he provoked National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to attack New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.
The confrontation took place on Monday, August 26, when individuals believed to be affiliated with the NDC challenged the presence of District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment parked at a hotel owned by the NPP parliamentary candidate and adorned with his campaign images.
The altercation resulted in injuries to two people.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Tetteh Nyarko urged the District Chief Executive (DCE) to move the equipment to the assembly’s premises to ease tensions.
Hon. Tetteh Nyarko explained, “During the procession of the machines through Asesewa, which is close to my residence, the NPP candidate directed traffic near my home.
His supporters in the tipper truck were throwing stones at my vehicle. It’s impossible for us to throw stones from above; it was their own supporters who did this, and one of them ended up getting injured.”
He further criticized the DCE, emphasizing that as a representative of the government, the DCE should act impartially and not allow such conflicts to arise.
Hon. Tetteh Nyarko also expressed frustration over the DCE’s decision to display the parliamentary candidate’s image on the grader, suggesting it was inappropriate and exacerbated the situation.
