  • He says Presidency win comes first, then ministerial role

John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, has emphasized that his primary focus is on securing his parliamentary seat rather than pursuing a ministerial position. Dumelo, who is running in the upcoming December 7th general elections, stated that any discussions about a ministerial role will be addressed only after he has achieved his electoral goals and contributed to John Dramani Mahama’s success in the 2024 elections.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, Dumelo clarified his current priorities: “My aim at this point is to make sure John Mahama becomes president. After that, you can now ask me about a ministerial position.”

Dumelo, who previously contested against Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections but was defeated by approximately 2,000 votes, remains optimistic about his chances this time around. His campaign is centered on direct engagement with voters and community service.

The actor-turned-politician also shared insights into his grassroots campaign strategies. “I still do clean-up exercises; I still provide absolutely free transportation for Legon and community students in Ayawaso,” Dumelo said. He noted that while these activities are frequent and impactful, they are not always highlighted in his public communications. “It’s just that because we do it so much, I don’t post so much, but on the grounds, the people know that we are definitely working,” he added.
