The National Identification Authority (NIA) is gearing up to roll out nationwide registration for Ghana Card applicants aged 6 to 14, starting in September.

This initiative follows the successful enrollment of 18 million Ghanaians aged 15 and older. According to Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, the Executive Secretary of the NIA, the registration process for younger children has already been trialed in the Eastern and Central regions.

The NIA is now ready to extend this effort across the entire country to ensure that every citizen, regardless of age, is part of the national identification system.

Prof. Attafuah explained, “We are now focusing on Ghanaians aged between 6 and 14, as our previous mass and continuous registration efforts covered those aged 15 and above.” He underscored the significance of this next phase and noted that insights gained from the pilot programs have shaped the NIA’s approach.

“We began testing the registration for this age group from July 20 to July 23 in the Eastern and Central regions. Based on these trials, we have refined our strategies and are ready to proceed with the nationwide registration for this demographic,” Prof. Attafuah added.
