  • NPP criticized for failing to deliver on "Year of Roads" promise.
  • DRIP equipment used as political tool, sparking tensions.
  • NDC claims to have a comprehensive road infrastructure plan.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) will not secure victory for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to voters in Asesewa, Upper Manya Krobo constituency, Eastern Region, Asiedu Nketia criticized the NPP for failing to deliver on their promises to improve the country’s road network.

Despite declaring a “Year of Roads” in previous budgets, the NPP has not made significant progress, Asiedu Nketia argued. The recently launched DRIP initiative, aimed at enhancing road infrastructure, comes too late to make a meaningful impact, he said.

Asiedu Nketia questioned the timing of the DRIP launch, less than four months before the NPP leaves power, and accused them of trying to use it as a political tool. The NPP has been accused of using the DRIP equipment to garner support, with tensions escalating in Upper Manya Krobo when equipment adorned with NPP posters was paraded.

The incident led to a violent clash between NPP and NDC supporters, resulting in three injuries. Asiedu Nketia stated that the NDC has a comprehensive plan to improve road infrastructure, which will boost agriculture and reduce post-harvest losses.

The Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, also condemned the NPP’s actions, accusing them of using national assets for political gain. Asiedu Nketia urged voters to remain firm and not be swayed by the NPP’s last-minute attempts to secure their support.
