John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to reinstate the licenses of financial institutions that were unjustly shut down under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Mahama made this promise during the launch of the 2024 NDC manifesto at the University of Education, Winneba, on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
He condemned the NPP for unfair actions against certain financial and business entities, leading to their collapse and resulting in significant economic hardship. Mahama assured the affected institutions and their stakeholders that the NDC would correct these injustices and restore their licenses.
He emphasized that these actions have not only harmed businesses but have also negatively impacted the livelihoods of many Ghanaians. Mahama also vowed to scrutinize the NPP’s Gold for Oil program, which has been marred by criticism and accusations of mismanagement and corruption.
He stated that the NDC would investigate the program and ensure transparency and accountability. Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum, Chairman of Group Ndoum, expressed confidence that the banking license of GN Bank, which was revoked in 2019, will be reinstated by the next political administration.
Dr. Ndoum revealed that Mahama and Alan Kyerematen have assured him of their commitment to reviving his collapsed bank. Mahama’s promise to reinstate the licenses of unjustly collapsed financial institutions has been welcomed by affected stakeholders, who are hopeful of a new dawn under the NDC administration.
