A tragic incident occurred in Garin Mallam village, Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where a 40-year-old woman, Fatsuma Bagobiri, set herself on fire after a split from her husband. The incident happened last Thursday, and the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed it in a statement in Dutse on Friday.
According to Shiisu, the police received a report that Fatsuma had poured petrol on her body, set it on fire, and got burned beyond recognition. The police promptly responded to the report and verified the incident, taking the charred body to the hospital and later releasing it to the family for burial.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Fatsuma had been experiencing depression for a few months following her divorce from her husband. The depression led to the tragic incident, where she took her own life by setting herself on fire on the outskirts of the village.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmadu Abdullahi, advised people to always submit their affairs to Almighty Allah for a way out. Abdullahi also emphasized the importance of seeking advice and counseling from elders on complex issues to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
The incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the need for support and guidance for individuals going through difficult times. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, but the tragic loss of life serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health support and seeking help when needed.
