Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has addressed comments made by fellow artist Stonebwoy regarding the Recording Academy’s recent portrayal of Ghana’s Hiplife history. Stonebwoy had criticized the Grammy’s article for failing to acknowledge his contributions to the genre, asserting that his influence on Ghana’s music scene was significant and deserved recognition.
The Grammy feature highlighted ten pivotal figures in the development of Hiplife, including notable names such as Reggie Rockstone and King Paluta, known for the hit track “Aseda.” Stonebwoy expressed his disappointment over the omission of his impact in the article.
In reaction to Stonebwoy’s critique, Shatta Wale, who was featured in the article alongside fellow dancehall artist Samini, advised Stonebwoy to remain silent.
Shatta Wale took to Twitter to challenge Stonebwoy’s comments: “How are you gonna demand a shoutout in a Hiplife article when you didn’t even get the memo back then?”
He further criticized Stonebwoy’s response, stating, “Somebody needs to deflate this ego a bit—let’s give credit where it’s actually due! @stonebwoy, we need less ‘big head’ and more facts!”
Shatta Wale also suggested that Stonebwoy’s disappointment might be rooted in jealousy, given that his own name appeared in the article while Stonebwoy’s did not.
