The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has publicly endorsed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) proposal to introduce a fixed rate on imported spare parts.
This policy was announced by NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama during the party’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba, on August 24.
According to Mahama, the fixed rate will ensure transparency in charges imposed on imported vehicle consignments.
The association’s head of communications, Takyi Addo, welcomed the NDC’s proposal, stating that it addresses a key challenge faced by spare parts dealers.
Addo noted that the association is still reviewing policies from both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before making a final decision.
He recalled that former president Mahama visited Abossey Okai four months ago and discussed the fixed rate policy with spare parts dealers.
Addo explained that a fixed rate would provide consistency and stability, eliminating fluctuations in charges.
The association believes that this policy will solve some of the challenges faced by spare parts dealers at the port.
Addo emphasized that no single policy can solve all their problems, but gradual progress is expected.
The association will thoroughly review the manifestos of both major political parties before issuing a strong statement.
