The National Peace Council is optimistic that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will agree to sign the peace pact before the December elections, despite the party’s expressed concerns.
The NDC has outlined specific conditions it believes must be met before it will sign the agreement, with the party’s National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia, questioning the effectiveness of past peace pacts.
In a recent press briefing in Accra, Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, conveyed hope that the NDC will ultimately agree to the pact.
“The NDC hasn’t definitively ruled out signing the pact. They’ve raised some issues, and we plan to discuss these with them to address their concerns.
“We believe it’s not worth becoming overly concerned about. Our doors are always open. We engage with the parties, listen to their concerns, and seek to resolve them where possible.
“While some issues may be beyond our control, we remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached.”
