The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Mines, Mr. George Mireku Duker, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to resolving the longstanding dispute between the chiefs and people of Tontokrom and Asanko Gold Ghana. This commitment is part of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government’s legacy in the mining sector, aiming to ensure a harmonious relationship between mining companies and local communities.

The dispute between Tontokrom community and Asanko Gold Ghana has been ongoing, with both parties at odds over gold resource exploitation in the area. To address this issue, the Deputy Minister held a series of meetings at the Ministry, followed by a working visit to the area to engage directly with the company and community leaders.

During his visit, Mr. Duker first met with Asanko Gold Ghana’s management to understand the company’s perspective on the issues and proposed steps to improve its relationship with the community. He emphasized the need for unity between the company and the community, stating that mutual success depends on a harmonious relationship.

The company requested an immediate resolution to the deadlock, and the Deputy Minister assured that the government has been engaging the community to allow the company to operate without conflict. He pledged to continue facilitating necessary dialogue and security measures to bring a final resolution to the matter.

The Deputy Minister’s visit and engagement with both parties demonstrate the government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the dispute. By resolving this dispute, the government aims to promote a positive and productive relationship between mining companies and local communities, ensuring mutual benefit and success.
