The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has launched a nationwide market crackdown, seizing numerous unapproved products circulating in Ghanaian markets. This intensified market surveillance effort comes after the FDA sanctioned over 100 manufacturing companies between January and now for advertising unapproved products.
During a recent operation, the FDA team, led by James Aboagye, Market Surveillance Team Lead, urged the public to be vigilant and cautious when purchasing products. Aboagye advised consumers to carefully check product details, including food, medicine, personal care items like shower gels, and others, to ensure they meet FDA standards.
The FDA conducts market surveillance activities daily, visiting districts in different locations and inspecting facilities, pharmacies, marts, shops, and households selling regulated products. The operation aims to protect consumers from harmful and unapproved products, ensuring public health and safety.
Aboagye emphasized that the FDA’s primary concern is consumer safety, and they will continue to monitor the market to prevent unapproved products from entering the supply chain. The FDA has called on the public to report any suspicious products or activities to their offices, promising swift action against offenders.
