Former footballer and BBC presenter Jermaine Jenas has been terminated from his contract with the corporation due to alleged workplace conduct issues. The 41-year-old, who presented The One Show and appeared on Match of the Day, has been taken off the air from both primetime shows.
Jenas responded to the news, stating, “There are two sides to every story,” but declined to comment further, saying he would let his “lawyers deal with it.”
The allegations against Jenas involve digital communications, such as texts, which were raised with the corporation a few weeks ago. In an interview with talkSport radio, Jenas repeatedly said he couldn’t discuss the claims, citing his lawyers’ advice.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed Jenas’ departure, stating, “We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up.”
Jenas’ salary for his work on The One Show was not publicly disclosed, but he earned between £190,000 and £194,999 for his work on other BBC programs.
The radio station talkSport, where Jenas also works, said he would not be broadcasting as a presenter in the immediate future.
Jenas is also employed by TNT Sports, which declined to comment on the situation.
His profile was removed from his agent’s website on Thursday evening.
Jenas had a successful football career, playing for Nottingham Forest, Spurs, and Newcastle United, before turning to media work as a pundit. He became a permanent presenter on The One Show in 2021.
In addition to his media work, Jenas co-founded the Aquinas Foundation to support young people in schools across Nottingham and received an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University in December 2023.
