2024 Elections: 22 Independent Candidates Join Presidential Fray

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced that 22 individuals have picked up nomination forms to run as independent presidential candidates in the upcoming December 7 election. Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Director of Training at the Electoral Commission, revealed this information on Ghana Tonight on August 22.

The list of independent presidential hopefuls includes notable names such as George Twum-Barima-Adu, Samuel Apea-Danquah, and Alan Kyeremateng. Others on the list include Nana Kwame Bediako, Jacob Osei Yeboah, Richard Sumah, and Kofi Koranteng.

Desmond Abrefa, Dr. Agnes Ayisha, and Dr. Nii Amu Darko are also among those who have picked up nomination forms. Additionally, Wilberforce Andrews, Nana Stephens, Rev. Samuel Worlanyo Amenyah, and TK Robert Roy Reindof have expressed interest in running for president.

Paul Perkoh, Seth Ntim Agyarko, Stephen Atubiga, Janet Asana Nabla, and Sam Ankrah complete the list of independent presidential candidates. The Electoral Commission has set aside September 9-13 as the period for receiving nominations for the presidential and parliamentary elections.

To qualify, candidates must submit completed nomination forms signed by themselves and at least two registered voters from each district assembly. The Electoral Commission has also announced that 69 individuals have picked up nomination forms to run as independent parliamentary candidates.
