In a recent interview with Doreen Avio, Ghanaian actor James Gardiner emphasized the importance of citizens voting based on their economic experiences. He acknowledged the current economic challenges facing the country, stating, “Times are hard especially when it comes to business not thriving as it used to be.”
Gardiner advised Ghanaians to use their personal economic struggles as a guide when casting their votes in the upcoming general elections. “I feel Ghanaians should use whatever it is that they are going through, to vote on what they feel is best for them,” he said.
The actor, who publicly supported the National Democratic Congress in the 2020 elections, reaffirmed his commitment to exercising his right to choose a political party, despite potential criticism. “I will not be fazed with that because everyone has opinions and choices. I don’t have a problem with whoever is judging me from behind the camera saying ‘why are you the one joining this’.”
Gardiner emphasized that he does not impose his choices on others, but acknowledged his influence as a public figure. “Yes, maybe I may be someone who may influence a couple of people when it comes to what I choose, but I am not pointing a weapon at anyone to say he or she should vote for someone by hook or crook.”
He added, “If I make my own decision, how is that your problem? If I choose to follow any political party and I decide to come public with it, it means it’s my choice.”
Gardiner also stated that he is willing to risk losing fans due to his public endorsement of political parties. “If because I don’t support what you support, you are not going to be a fan of mine, that’s okay… everyone has a choice and I can’t do what you want.”
