Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, has confirmed that no new arbitration awards have been issued against Ghana since he began his term.
He made this statement while addressing a recent US court enforcement order related to the Trafigura judgment debt.
In an interview with Accra-Based TV, monitored by Kumasi.city, Mr. Dame underscored the notable achievements Ghana has made in international arbitration under his watch.
He expressed pride in the fact that, as of now, no arbitration awards have been rendered against the country during his tenure.
Mr. Dame explained that the recent US court ruling is not a new judgment but rather an enforcement order connected to a judgment debt from January 2021.
He highlighted that this debt, originating from an earlier arbitration award, has not led to any new arbitration claims or awards against Ghana.
He clarified that despite media reports suggesting a new $111 million judgment by a District of Columbia Court in favor of the Ghana Power Generation Company (GPGC), the recent court action merely enforces the previous award. The government has made efforts towards payment but has not yet completed it.
