“If I Become President, People Will Serve Short Jail Terms” – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has outlined a controversial plan to combat what he perceives as increasing indiscipline in Ghana, should he become president. In a recent TikTok live video, Wale revealed his intention to establish numerous prisons designed for short-term incarceration, with the goal of instilling discipline through brief periods of confinement.

“If I became president, I would build a lot of prisons. People will be trooping in and out; they will be taking turns to serve short jail terms just to learn sense,” Wale said. He proposed sentences ranging from two weeks to three months, aimed at providing individuals with a corrective experience. “People are just misbehaving these days, talking and acting anyhow, so their experiences in jail will enable them to learn sense and straighten them up,” he added.

Wale’s plan includes implementing harsh conditions within these facilities. “I will make sure they are taught a lesson and beaten up very well in jail so that when they are released, they will learn to value and respect people,” he declared.

He also noted the availability of land for these facilities, mentioning specific locations such as Afienya and Winneba. “There is lots of land available for that. Even in Afienya, Winneba, I will be able to acquire some land and build these prisons,” Wale explained.
