Gov’t Empowers 35 Persons with Disabilities in North Dayi District

The government, utilizing the disability fund, has equipped thirty-five individuals with disabilities (PWDs) in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region.

This initiative, part of the district’s common fund, aims to support, protect, and improve the socio-economic status of PWDs.

The beneficiaries received a range of items including ovens, fufu pounding machines, groceries, industrial sewing machines, farm inputs, and movable cassava mills. Additionally, they were given GH₵200 to cover transportation costs for their start-up kits.

District Chief Executive Kudjoh Attah urged the recipients to establish small businesses with the equipment provided to become self-sufficient. He emphasized that this approach is a shift from traditional charity to fostering financial independence and self-reliance among PWDs.

Kudjoh Attah praised the government’s forward-thinking approach, which seeks to move away from merely giving handouts to empowering individuals to support themselves.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the kits responsibly and assured them of his ongoing support to ensure that vulnerable groups, particularly PWDs, lead dignified lives.
