Contracts of Underperforming Contractors to be Terminated – Mensah Korsah Warns”
- Minister threatens to terminate non-performing contractors' contracts.
- Contractors fail to deliver despite receiving payments.
- Some contractors deliberately delay projects for extra funds.
- Ministry to take action against non-performers.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has issued a stern warning to non-performing contractors under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme. During a recent tour of the Western and Central Regions, the Minister expressed his disappointment with the lackluster performance of some contractors.
Despite receiving payments from the ministry, these contractors have failed to deliver critical infrastructural development projects in 35 municipalities. The Minister emphasized that his ministry will not tolerate such lackadaisical attitude and will take drastic measures to address the issue.
Mensah Korsah observed that some contractors deliberately delay project execution to secure extra funds from the government. This practice, he noted, will no longer be countenanced by the ministry.
The Minister revealed that his ministry has been monitoring the performance of contractors and will take action against those who fail to meet expectations. He stated that some contractors have been good, but others have not, and measures are in place to ensure that no one frustrates the government and the people.
The ministry is building records of non-performing contractors and will apply the law to prevent them from participating in future procurement processes. Mensah Korsah concluded by stating that some arrangements have already been terminated due to failure to deliver, and his ministry will continue to take decisive action to ensure accountability.
