Blackout at Chereponi SHS: Students’ WASSCE Hopes Under Threat
- Power outage hits Chereponi, disrupts SHS studies.
- District hospital relies on generators, affecting healthcare.
- School and businesses call for quick resolution.
- VRA works to restore power, MP provides fuel support.
Final-year students at Chereponi Senior High School are facing unprecedented challenges due to a prolonged power outage in the area, which has lasted for over a week. The power outage has disrupted their academic pursuits, particularly as they prepare for their final West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) exams.
The outage has affected the entire Chereponi district, impacting essential services such as health, education, and economic activities. Students are struggling to study at night, as they rely heavily on electricity to read and complete their assignments.
The school’s assistant headmaster has expressed deep concerns about the negative impact of the power outage on academic activities. The district hospital is also severely affected, relying on fuel-powered generators to remain operational and provide critical healthcare services.
In a gesture of support, the Member of Parliament for Chereponi, Hon. Tahidu Abdul Razak, has provided the hospital with two drums of fuel to support their operations. Despite the challenges, some local businesspeople have found opportunities in the crisis by offering phone charging services to residents.
However, they too are urging a quick resolution to the power issue, as it affects their businesses and livelihoods. The Volta River Authority (VRA) has declined to comment on the matter but assured that efforts are being made to address the problem and restore power to the affected areas.
