Raheem Sterling has been excluded from Chelsea’s squad for their Europa Conference League play-off first leg against Servette.
This marks the second consecutive match in which the 29-year-old England forward has not been included in a matchday squad, following his omission from the Premier League opener against Manchester City.
Defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were also left off Chelsea’s A-list submitted to UEFA for the match at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (20:00 BST).
The second leg will take place in Switzerland on August 29.
Should Chelsea advance to the Conference League group stage, Sterling could be included in their squad.
Sterling’s representatives expressed a desire for “clarity” regarding his future at Chelsea, following the team’s defeat to Manchester City.
The club has spent approximately £185 million on 11 new signings this summer, resulting in a squad of over 40 senior players.
Manager Enzo Maresca has stated that he “wants” Sterling at Chelsea but acknowledged the limited playing opportunities available for all his players.
Sterling has made 81 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City for £50 million in July 2022.
